Bookless poetry

This page is an index to my poetry that's on this website, but not (so far) part of any published book - in other words, not in A Kitset of 26 poems, or Pathways into the Brain, nor Falling Off Chairs.

There aren't a lot of these, and they tend to be in the style of what one critic labelled "a new Vachel Lindsay". Most of them are strange, rambling poems that don't quite fit any into any of my published books. Some critics tend to think these poems are shallow - because they've been trained to look at "meaning" and apply that concept prosaically. But I say this is poetry, not prose; it works differently. Try these...

Fumio Ichizuma (Sad Little Poems of Japan, no. 3)

Momphta and Omphta

Big smoke over the Mhlahahabatini District

More will be added, in the not too distant future, including

Elegy for my grandmother

The last Sunday afternoon tea

I wrote you a letter, covered in ice
